Hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum) — Live Aquarium Plant 3-Pack
Product description
IMPORTANT: Do not order live plants if the outside low temperature at any point in the day is expected to fall below 30°F. Extreme cold or extreme heat during transit can harm live plants.
WHAT YOU GET — Three live hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum) plants per order. Each bundle contains several stems, commonly ranging from about 5 to 10 inches in length; exact sizes vary because these are living specimens.
PACKAGING & ACCESSORIES — Plants are placed in sealed bags and boxed for shipment. Many bundles arrive with small plant weights wrapped around the stems in separate sections to help sink them once installed.
LIVE ARRIVAL PROMISE — A live-arrival guarantee applies to orders shipped when outdoor lows do not go below 30°F. If a plant appears dead on arrival, provide a clear photo of the unopened bag for verification and the seller will replace the item.
CARE & USE — Hornwort is commonly used as an oxygenator and surface float in tanks, ponds, and troughs. It may lose needles and shed foliage when first introduced due to shipping stress and acclimation; this is normal and new growth typically follows once conditions stabilize.
SUPPORT — The seller encourages questions and aims for prompt responses. If you have concerns about health on arrival, reach out with photos so they can assist.
Pros
- Good quantity — three bundles per order
- Useful live-arrival guarantee with photo verification
- Effective oxygenator and fast grower once acclimated
Cons
- Vulnerable to extreme shipping temperatures
- May shed needles when first introduced
- Occasional dead-on-arrival or pest issues reported
VerdictA straightforward, budget-friendly way to add oxygenating hornwort to ponds and aquariums. Orders normally include three substantial bundles with multiple stems, and most buyers report healthy regrowth after acclimation. Be mindful of shipping conditions — extremes of heat or cold can stress live plants — and inspect plants on arrival. Good packaging and a responsive seller help, but a small numbe

Brown at arrival but bounced back
The package took 10 days and arrived mostly brown from heat, but I planted everything in my pond and it recovered. If stems retain green, hornwort often regrows even after looking cooked — this one came back strong. Issue seemed to be shipping, not the seller. Would buy again.

DOA but seller made it right
Plant arrived dead, but the seller refunded after I sent photos. They've sent good plants before — this one just didn’t survive transit.

One of three died quickly
One bundle died within four days and looked rough on arrival, but the other two stayed green and healthy for a month. My koi and goldfish nibble them but growth keeps up. I might reorder later in spring.

Arrived alive — so far, pleased
First time ordering live plants online and it went well. Shipment came quickly in a bag inside a sturdy box via USPS — watch PO Box notices so it isn't left sitting. Mostly green with some brown tips. I used these in a 500+ gal horse trough for goldfish; bundles had wrapped weights in three sections. I left the weights on, sank two, and the third lost its weight after some thinning but overall they're still alive.

Leeches caused major problems
Found a leech on the plant right away and discarded that clump. After adding other bundles, leech eggs hatched and my fish developed parasites; I lost most of my stock and had to clear the tank. Quarantine new plants thoroughly.

Dense bundles — excellent value
One of the three bundles was much bigger and denser than what I usually get from other sellers. Shrimp and guppies love it; after acclimation the plants turned bright green and are thriving.
