Goliath Power Saber — Automatic Extending & Retracting Energy Blade (Green)
Product description
This Power Saber is a fully automatic extend-and-retract energy blade that opens to 35" (90 cm). The package includes the motorized saber plus a desktop display stand and a belt clip for carrying it when not on display. The hilt is a sturdy, molded plastic and the blade is a lightweight, telescoping type designed for quick deployment and retraction.
The unit features motion-activated special effects: swing the saber to hear SFX, and impact flashes trigger a bright burst on contact. There is also an LED built into the hilt that contributes to the visual effects. The saber is intended for imaginative play and display; after use you can place it on the included stand or attach it to clothing with the belt clip.
Power is supplied by four AA batteries (not included). The toy is aimed at ages 6 and up, and is offered in both green and red colorways. It was recognized with a 2024 Toy & Game International Excellence (TAGiE) Award for Toy Innovator of the Year.
Pros
- Automatic extend/retract action for a realistic reveal
- Motion-triggered SFX with clash flash and hilt LED
- Includes display stand and belt clip for storage or wear
Cons
- Some units may jam or experience motor issues
- Not built for heavy dueling or rough combat play
- Requires 4×AA batteries (not supplied)
VerdictA novel, toy-grade automatic saber that delivers a convincing extend-and-retract experience with motion-triggered SFX and clash flashes. Great for cosplay, imaginative play, or collectors seeking a nostalgic, motorized gimmick. Durability varies — some buyers report jams or motor issues — so handle it as a prop rather than a dueling weapon.

Ideal present
Well made and reliable—our son absolutely loved it. All expected features are present and it felt like a quality gift for a Star Wars fan.

Not indestructible
This is the kind of saber I wanted as a kid. It’s a cosplay/prop device, not meant for heavy-contact dueling. Also, the extension and retraction are a bit slower than some older non-retracting auto blades.

Unique but inconsistent
Entertaining gimmick, but after several extend/retract cycles the motor sometimes stops moving the blade. It often recovers after a short rest, so I may have gotten a faulty unit.

Solid prop for the category
Impressive appearance for the price range. The extend/retract works and it handles light, playful hits. Sound effects could be stronger, but overall I’m pleasantly surprised.

Good
Very cool toy, though the hilt is chunkier than other sabers I’ve seen.

Grandson enjoys it
The boys love pretending with this saber. It can stick occasionally, so I’m unsure about long-term durability, but both kids have had a lot of fun with the many effects.

So much fun!
I paid a premium locally but decided to buy for convenience and warranty. The unit feels substantial, the automatic extension is oddly satisfying, and the swing sounds are enjoyable. There are reports of malfunctions, but my sample has worked so far and I’m excited to show it at events.

Exciting but broke quickly
Presentation and first impressions were fantastic, but after a few hours the blade jammed inside the hilt and stopped extending. My child was very disappointed.

Surprisingly amazing
If you doubt the hype, this delivers. The lights, sounds and motorized action combine to give a very authentic feel. My five-year-old stole the show on Halloween. Some units can be defective, so a higher-end version with reinforced parts would be a nice option.

Brings back childhood saber memories
I collected the collapsible sabers of the late ’90s and early ’00s and was disappointed by many modern toy blades. This motorized model recaptures that satisfying extend-and-retract sensation with decent build and sound. It’s a welcome throwback for collectors and fans who miss the old gimmicks.
