Celestron SkyMaster 15x70 Astronomy Binoculars — Large-Aperture Stargazing Optics
Product description
Celestron engineered these large-format binoculars to meet the needs of extended astronomical and long-range terrestrial observing. Equipped with 15x magnification and 70mm objective lenses, the SkyMaster gathers substantial light for better contrast and resolution in low-light conditions.
Optics and construction: The binoculars use BaK-4 roof prisms and multi-coated lens surfaces to maximize light transmission and reduce internal reflections. A rubber-armored housing offers a secure grip and basic water-resistance for use in damp or misty nights. Soft fold-down eyecups accommodate eyeglass wearers while blocking stray light for improved viewing comfort.
Mounting and handling: Because of their size and weight, these binoculars are intended for tripod mounting during prolonged sessions. A built-in 1/4”-20 tripod adapter rod is provided so the instrument can be attached to most photographic tripods in seconds. Handheld use is possible for short periods but stability and sharpness are best achieved with a tripod.
Included items: The package contains the tripod adapter rod, objective lens caps, a rainguard, a deluxe padded carrying case, a neck strap, a lens-cleaning cloth, and an instruction manual. Customer purchases also include Celestron’s Limited Lifetime U.S. Warranty and access to U.S.-based technical support.

Impressive clarity for planets and bright stars
I rushed out pre-dawn to catch the moon and was blown away by the clarity. Focusing is easy and they revealed planets and bright star patterns clearly. I’d chosen these for simplicity over a telescope and I’m glad I did — a great way to enjoy summer constellations.

Fantastic for dark-sky outings
These shine under dark skies — loads of stars, planets and satellites visible. They’re not optimized for birding, but for astronomy they’re impressive. I took them to a park away from city lights and they made the trip worthwhile.

Great buy — bright views at dusk
Very fast delivery and secure packaging. The binoculars feel solid and are comfortable even for small hands. Image is bright and sharp at twilight; I use them without my glasses and am very satisfied.

Solid starter binos for backyard astronomy
Perfect choice for beginners and casual enthusiasts. Easy focus, good build and weight, and useful for targets up to about a mile away. They look and feel decent and arrived promptly. Recommended for first-time observers.

Not the best choice for fine daytime detail
I tested them against a high-end 10x42 and found daytime fine-detail performance lacking; license plates required multiple steady tries. These are marketed for astronomy and that’s where they excel, so I returned them for daytime use.

Watch for collimation — adjustable if needed
Bought a used pair; first shipment had issues but replacement arrived in great shape. These can show double images if out of collimation, but many users can correct that by accessing the alignment screws beneath the grip — follow careful guides online. Performance is excellent once aligned.

Perfect complement if you already own a telescope
If you have a scope and want a wide-field, grab-and-go option, these are great. Arrived well protected and collimated; in my city garden I saw the Pleiades, Hyades, the Double Cluster and M31 with more apparent size than my small reflector. Precise focus and good eye relief.

Great for beginners — tripod strongly recommended
I picked these up on a sale and they’ve been perfect for a new stargazer. Mounted on a tripod the views are very steady; handheld they’re shaky but usable for short glances. The plastic tripod adapter they include works fine once seated. If you’re new, budget for a tripod and you’ll be pleased.

Ideal for beginners
Perfect product for astronomy beginners.

Bright images, but accessories could be improved
The optics arrived well collimated and deliver bright views. The narrow neck strap and thin soft case are disappointing; I swapped in a sturdier strap and would prefer a hard case for transport. Despite that, the binoculars handle and perform well.

Amazing value and performance for aperture
Hard to believe the asking price for this aperture. Low chromatic aberration, sharp image and tolerable field curvature for astronomy. Lighter than a 20x80 and usable handheld briefly. Handle with care, they feel a bit delicate.

Perfect for sea viewing and spotting Jupiter’s moons
Took them on a cruise and they were the best binoculars on deck. Good for spotting distant ships and spectacular for the night sky — I could see Jupiter’s four large moons clearly. Not powerful enough for planetary color, but excellent overall.
