AGM PVS-14 Night Vision Monocular — Gen 2+ NL1 Green Phosphor
Product description
The AGM PVS-14 is a purpose-built night-vision monocular designed for demanding field use. The package typically includes the monocular itself plus a head harness for hands-free operation and the hardware required for helmet mounting. Some kits also include a soft carry case and protective lenses. The housing is sealed to be waterproof and finished with a rugged exterior to withstand rough handling and harsh conditions.
Optically, the unit ships with a 26 mm objective lens at F/1.2, providing a 40° field of view and a native 1x viewing magnification; 3x and 5x magnification options are available for specific configurations. Image intensifier tubes come as Gen 2+ or optional Gen 3, with NL1 green phosphor variants available for higher visual clarity. Controls include manual gain adjustment, an automatic bright-light shut-off to protect the photocathode, and LED indicators visible in the eyepiece that report low battery, IR status, and overexposure warnings. A built-in infrared (IR) illuminator supports zero-light scenarios.
The eyepiece and control layout emphasize ergonomics and simple operation for rapid deployment. Power is supplied by standard batteries, delivering up to approximately 50 hours of operation at around 20°C, and the unit is rated to operate across extreme temperatures (roughly -51°C to +49°C). A limited manufacturer warranty covers the device for a specified period. Common uses include tactical operations, law enforcement, hunting, surveillance, research, and general outdoor navigation at night.
Pros
- Rugged, waterproof construction built to military environmental standards
- Clear optics: 26 mm F/1.2 lens with 40° FOV and Gen 2+ / Gen 3 tube options
- Versatile mounting: handheld, head harness, or helmet-compatible
Cons
- Tube performance (FOM) can vary between units and sellers
- Higher-end Gen 3 options add significant cost
- Head mount and J-arm quality may be basic in some kits
VerdictA durable, versatile night-vision monocular that balances performance and practicality. With Gen 2+ or Gen 3 IIT options, a fast 26 mm F/1.2 lens and a wide 40° field, it delivers clear low-light imagery for handheld use or helmet mounting. Manual gain, automatic bright-light protection, and an internal IR emitter make it adaptable across missions and outdoor activities. Expect solid battery life

NL1 commercial spec — check the tube data
NL1 indicates nongated green phosphor with low blemishes and an advertised FOM in the 1300–1400 range. Good value, but confirm tube specs before buying.

Worth the investment
Solid Gen2+ performance — a big step up from the Gen1 gear I used in service. Very satisfied.

Good entry-level PVS-14 but do your homework
Standard features present and battery life matched expectations. Tube quality felt commercial rather than mil-spec; some buyers get excellent Mil-Spec tubes, others not. Research options and tube specs before you commit.

Received a counterfeit unit
My unit was not a true intensifier — looked like an LCD, used two batteries, and performed poorly. Sent it back. Beware of fakes.

FOM varies — buy from reputable sellers
Would rate five stars except for inconsistent FOMs from third-party sellers. I had a Gen2+ with low FOM here but had better luck buying direct from trusted dealers. Know the FOM you want before purchasing.

Great package, solid optics
Arrived as described. Includes a soft case and spare protective lenses. Head mount and J-arm are functional but not premium. QC card included was reassuring. Overall a great unit for the money.

Pricey but performs
Bought two to pair on a panoramic bridge. They’re expensive but deliver reliable performance. Gen 3 would be nicer but would cost much more; these work well and come with strong support.
