Triple Eight Gotham MIPS Helmet — Urban Bike & Skate Helmet
Product description
Multi-directional Impact Protection: The Gotham integrates MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) inside the liner to help reduce damaging rotational forces in angled impacts. The low-friction layer is designed to move slightly against the outer shell to absorb and redirect rotational energy.
Shell and airflow: The helmet uses a durable ABS outer shell with an understated brim and a pattern of vents branded with the manufacturer’s logo. The profile is intended for urban riding and skate activities, offering a balance of high-impact resistance and moderate airflow rather than maximum ventilation.
Fit and comfort features: An external adjustment dial at the back allows micrometer-style tightening for a customized hold. The package includes two sets of removable, washable terrycloth Sweatsaver fit pads to tune internal volume and fit, plus a chin strap with a side-release buckle for quick donning and secure fastening.
Sizes and warranty: Available in three size ranges — XS/S fits 18.9–21.3 in (48–54 cm), S/M fits 21.7–22.8 in (55–58 cm), and L/XL fits 23.2–24.0 in (59–61 cm). The manufacturer provides a 180-day warranty on the helmet. To pick the right size, measure head circumference with a soft tape or string and follow the sizing guidance.
Certifications and use cases: This model carries multiple certifications for mixed use, meeting the U.S. CPSC standard for bicycle helmets for ages 5 and older and relevant ASTM standards for recreational bicycling/roller skating (ASTM F1447) and skateboarding/trick roller skating (ASTM F1492). It is intended for biking, skateboarding, in-line skating/rollerblading, roller derby, and urban commuting.
Pros
- MIPS layer for added rotational-impact protection
- Adjustable rear dial and removable fit pads for a secure fit
- Sturdy vented ABS shell with skate-style profile
Cons
- Ventilation is modest compared with high-flow helmets
- Slightly heavier than minimalist road helmets
- Fewer large vents limit cooling on very hot days
VerdictWell-built and versatile, the Gotham MIPS blends skate-style form with bicycle-safety credentials. It provides added rotational-impact mitigation, a robust ABS shell, and a easily tuned fit system. Trade-offs include modest ventilation and a slightly heavier feel compared with ultra-light road helmets.

Plays well with a visor and rides comfortably
I use this with a ‘Da Brim’ visor for late-afternoon road rides and it pairs nicely. The helmet fits securely and feels comfortable for longer stretches. In hindsight, a light color would be better for evening visibility and daytime heat, but the ABS shell is a noticeable step up from my previous thin-shell helmet.

Functional and comfortable; matches the cost
I ordered this overseas and it arrived new and comfortable. It’s a straightforward helmet—solid construction and no surprises. You get what you pay for.

Comfortable overall but airflow is limited
The helmet is comfortable and the rear dial keeps the fit stable, but ventilation is on the conservative side. On hot days it can feel warm, and I wish there was a larger opening to thread a U-lock through the shell.

Attractive, comfy, and secure for a child
Beautiful helmet, very comfortable and it fit my 8-year-old perfectly. We’re very happy with it.

Feels reassuring after multiple past head injuries
After several sports-related head injuries I wanted reliable protection. The MIPS layer and solid construction give me confidence. It breathes reasonably well, the tightening strap holds it in place, and the precise fit prevents any rattling while skating.

Comfortable, protective, and easy to adjust
Having experienced a serious head injury before, safety is my top priority. The MIPS-equipped Gotham gives me peace of mind. It’s lightweight enough for regular use, and the back-strap adjusts quickly while the chin strap is simple to fine-tune.

Finally a snug fit for a very small adult head
I have an unusually small, oval-shaped head (about 20.5 inches) and most skate-style lids are too roomy. This one fits like a glove. The dial tightens down nicely to accommodate different hairstyles, and it protects without creating a bulbous look.

Solid protection and a snug fit after careful measuring
I spent a lot of time comparing models before buying this—wanted something reliable while getting back into outdoor roller skating. My head measured 23 inches (about 58.5 cm), and advice to size up when between sizes led me to order the L/XL. The dial system let me fine-tune the fit, and the MIPS lining was a key reason I chose this model.

High-quality look and child-friendly fit
The matte black finish looks great and feels solid. As a parent I appreciate the added safety of MIPS. My 10-year-old’s head measured around 22 inches and the helmet fit him well. It is a bit heavier than his old model, and don’t peel the yellow MIPS sticker—mine got marked when I tried.
