Express Water 3-Stage Whole House Replacement Filters — 4.5 x 20 in (3-Pack)
Product description
Complete 3-stage replacement set for whole-house filtration. This pack contains three 4.5 x 20 inch cartridges: a polyphosphate anti-scale cartridge, a KDF heavy-metal reduction cartridge (copper and zinc media), and a densely packed activated carbon block cartridge. These are sized to fit standard 4.5 x 20 housings used in many three-stage whole-house systems.
KDF heavy metal stage: The KDF cartridge blends catalytic carbon with high-purity, ionically charged copper and zinc granules to reduce heavy metals such as iron, lead, nickel and chromium, and to help limit chlorine-related contaminants. KDF (kinetic degradation fluxion) media is effective at oxidizing and transforming certain dissolved metals.
Anti-scale stage: The polyphosphate cartridge releases a protective, soluble phosphate that helps inhibit scale formation and corrosion on plumbing and appliances. It reduces mineral buildup and helps protect water-using equipment from premature fouling.
Carbon stage: The activated carbon block is tightly packed with vacuum-heated coconut shell carbon for high adsorption capacity and improved taste and odor control. This stage addresses chlorine, chloramines, volatile organic compounds, tastes and odors and polishes the water after prefiltration.
Performance and service life: The set is engineered for high-capacity whole-house service with minimal pressure loss; units can deliver flow rates up to about 0.25 gallons per second under normal conditions. Filter life is stated up to approximately 100,000 gallons or roughly 6–12 months, but actual longevity varies with source water quality, temperature and pressure. Operating range is 45–80 psi and 40–100°F.
Installation and care: Use these cartridges in a dry, level location protected from freezing and direct sunlight. They are intended to be installed after a sediment pre-filter when applicable. Cartridges become heavy when saturated, so plan for safe handling at changeout. Typical maintenance includes replacing the set on the recommended interval and flushing housings; many users disinfect and rinse housings during service.
Pros
- Reduces heavy metals, chlorine and odors
- Anti-scale polyphosphate protects plumbing and appliances
- High-capacity carbon block improves taste with minimal flow loss
Cons
- Cartridges are heavy when saturated and require careful handling
- Lifespan depends heavily on incoming water quality
- Needs routine replacement (typically every 6–12 months)
VerdictA comprehensive three-stage replacement set for whole-house systems that targets heavy metals, scale and chlorine while improving taste. The KDF stage uses copper/zinc media to reduce metals, the polyphosphate cartridge prevents scale buildup, and a densely packed activated carbon block (vacuum-heated coconut shell carbon) polishes taste and odors. Filters are large-format to preserve flow and can

Gross results, excellent outcome
Fits and functions like the originals. Seeing the buildup after six months is nasty but reassuring. Water tastes much better now.

Cleaner, softer water
After installing the system the cartridges keep my water clear, neutral tasting and noticeably softer.

Relief from chlorine sensitivity
I needed something because I'm sensitive to city chlorine. After installation and testing, chlorine and fluoride were removed and I can drink the tap water without reactions.

Easy and reliable
Simple to change and lasts about a year. Works very well.

A must for peace of mind
I don't usually review, but this PHO+KDF+ACB combo with a sediment pre-filter is great value. Our sediment turns orange from iron in about 30 days, and the downstream stages keep the whole house water much cleaner. Switched from a higher-cost competitor that restricted flow; very happy with these.

Straightforward annual changeout
Used cartridges look gross after a year, so they must be doing their job. Taste changes are subtle. Replacement is simple with the big-picture instructions; housings are heavy when wet so have help and the housing wrench. I rinse with a mild bleach solution then fresh water and swap yearly.

Worth the extra cost for hard water
I went with the PHO, KDF and ACB stages for very hard water. The KDF stage made a clear difference — faucet water now tastes almost like our reverse-osmosis water. Worth the investment for us.

Add a flow meter
Install a flow meter to track total usage. I bought one, will add more to other systems.
