Floating Copper Disk for Bird Baths — 99.9% Copper, Moves with Wind & Ripples
Product description
Includes one floating copper disk housed in a perforated plastic float. The insert contains a thin plate of 99.9% pure copper seated inside a round plastic shell that allows water contact while keeping the copper elevated above debris.
The float is designed for shallow bird baths and similar outdoor water receptacles. The outer housing measures roughly 2.75 inches across while the copper plate itself sits around 2.5 inches in diameter, making it small enough to sit comfortably in most home garden basins and shallow trays.
Operation is simple: drop the unit into the bath and allow it to bob with wind and surface movement. It is built to float on either face — ensure it settles below the water line so the copper is in contact with the water. Its motion keeps the metal interacting with the surface rather than becoming buried under leaves or droppings.
As the copper releases ions into the water over time a greenish patina (verdigris) will form on the metal; this is a normal chemical reaction and not corrosion in the sense of rust. The product is non‑toxic and chemical‑free, intended for outdoor use throughout the seasons.
Materials and durability: the disk uses 99.9% pure copper for the active plate and a lightweight plastic float to provide buoyancy. The construction is aimed at long outdoor life but occasional rinsing is recommended to remove trapped debris from the housing holes.
Compatibility: intended for plastic, resin, stone, ceramic, metal or composite bird baths and shallow wildlife water dishes. Its floating design keeps the copper visible and helps maintain a cleaner water surface with less frequent scrubbing.
Pros
- 99.9% pure copper active plate
- Floats and moves with wind and ripples
- Low maintenance and chemical‑free
Cons
- Plastic housing available only in one color
- Some units may remain still instead of drifting
- Housing assembly uses glued plastic seams
VerdictA straightforward, low‑maintenance accessory for garden bird baths: the disk keeps copper exposed to water while bobbing with wind and waves, helping reduce surface debris and easing cleaning chores. Build quality is solid but the plain black housing and occasional lack of motion reported by some buyers are drawbacks. Works best in shallow basins and for users seeking a chemical‑free, durable opti

Keeps Water Moving and May Slow Ice
Well made and light enough to be wafted by even gentle breezes in my wildlife water bowl. It glides without banging the edges and seems to keep the surface from going completely still. Hoping it will prevent a full ice sheet when temperatures drop; so far the ravens haven’t taken it.

Does the Job, Modestly Noticeable
Performs comparably to solid copper plates I’ve used before. It’s a little more visible than some but otherwise seems to work as expected.

Didn’t Move in My Setup
Mine just sat stationary and didn’t create the ripples shown. Disappointed that it didn’t move at all.

Attractive but Didn’t Reduce Algae Here
It looks excellent and does float as advertised, yet I haven’t seen less algae or reduced cleaning on my metal bird bath. Might work better in plastic basins. I’m keeping it in place for the movement and potential help to insects that need a resting spot.

Simple Addition That Helps Keep Water Cleaner
A straightforward, effective unit — it drifts with ripples and keeps the copper exposed. Stays above leaves and droppings so the basin looks cleaner longer. Construction feels solid for outdoor use and it’s easy to maintain.

Subtle Look but Some Build Quirks
Easy to use — drop it in and occasionally rinse. Copper should last a long time outdoors. It adds a restrained metallic accent, though I wish there were more housing color options. The housing is about 2.75" across and the plate roughly 2.5", and the plastic float has many holes. One star deducted for the glued seam and only black choice.

Works Well and Floats Reliably
I like this disk — it bobs back to the surface when pressed and stays afloat. Made from high‑purity copper and suitable for year‑round outdoor use in my warm climate. Small, palm‑sized, and keeps the water looking cleaner.

Good Fit for Ground Containers, Motion Helps
I use it in a wide shallow container for backyard critters rather than a formal bird bath. The disc is about the right size (roughly a few inches across) and the black float keeps it riding the surface. The motion plus copper seems to help prevent green water so far — holding at four stars until I see how it fares through the season.
